Mick-smMick’s Musings

(the thinking-out-loud ponderings of the SAD Superintendent)

The Missionary Impluse

Beginning this week, congregations in the South Atlantic District are hosting C&MA international workers serving as vocational missionaries. It is our annual celebration of the work of the Gospel that is being extended from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth by those sent out from us to extend our witness. This annual emphasis gives us opportunity to celebrate the opportunity to discharge the missionary impulse within us.

Jesus was clear about the responsibility of His disciples to bear witness to the Gospel: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16). In another place, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).

  • VBS Miracle...

    VBS_Miracle-sm VBS Miracle

In our first year at Centro de Adoracion a Dios Church, Snellville, GA, we discovered that this church had never had a VBS. An outside group came to direct it that year, and the same happened on our second year, but this year–2011–the church decided: "With God’s help, we will do it on our own." This might seem pretty basic and simple to you, but it was a big step of faith for a church that in its ten years of life prior to our pastoring, had never had a VBS or any established Children's Ministry. So we began praying for sixty children to come to our VBS on July 25th to 29th, something really impossible in our own eyes but not for God. more

The Lord has given Marietta Alliance Church a vision to reach the teens that reside in their community for the Lord Jesus Christ. Through much prayer, planning, and preparation this vision is now a reality called the Mudroom. The Mudroom is a 3,600 square foot, off-campus, teen center within walking distance of the local high school. The facility is complete with a pool table, ping pong table, two foosball tables, two flat screen TV’s, a gaming center, four serving counters, comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi, and a house computer. more

From the beginnings of Faith Missionary Alliance Church in Winston Salem, North Carolina, God’s beautiful blessings have been upon its people. Within the past 15 years God has graciously blessed Faith Church with a new Family Life Facility and the renovation of Sunday School classrooms, church office space, nursery accommodations and bathrooms. In 2001, a new Day Care facility and new classrooms were built. God graciously provided for this nearly 1.2 million dollar project with only a small amount of money needing to be borrowed.more

  • Bible Quizzing

    quizzing A Generational Thing

The 2010-2011 Bible Quiz year started off benign enough. As a coach I was concerned that my quiz teams be as prepared as possible and do well. This was not my first year in quizzing but it was my first time starting a junior team. I had introduced Quizzing to the 4th & 5th graders at the South Atlantic District summer camp for several summers and had gotten the young people excited about quizzing in the future. But to start a program for that age and be responsible for getting them ready to quiz was another story! more

  • Picnic

    picnic A True Communiy Picnic

Campus Community Church, Toccoa Falls, Georgia, recently hosted a community picnic in a government housing development. This picnic appeared to be pretty standard with hot dogs being grilled, potato salad and chips being served, and kids playing ball. However, despite appearances, this picnic was different: it was a big step in the direction that God’s hand is leading our church as we minister to hurting people in the Toccoa community. more
