The Big Handoff One of leadership’s critical tasks is preparing for the inevitable succession of our leadership. Unless the ministry we lead comes to an end on my watch, I will be called upon eventually to hand it off to someone else to continue pursuit of the mission. One of the great Biblical examples of this is found in I Chronicles 29 as King David hands off leadership of ancient Israel to the next king, Solomon. The MEG’s are looking at this passage this month and discussing the principles here which inform our own leadership. Two key questions we are reflecting upon are “What am I to accomplish on my watch?” and “What can I do to leave the organization in a stronger position for my successor?” In short, how do I prepare for the big hand-off of my responsibilities to the next called leader?
